Steroid injection area has lost pigmentation
2 Answers
After I had my baby, who is quite heavy, I developed Tendonitis in my left wrist, which was very painful. I had it years ago in the right one and a Cortisone Injection sorted the problem quickly, so I decided to have one in the other.
My GP injected the Cortisone into the Tendon Sheath about 2 months ago and again the problem has gone and I'm pain free. However, about 10 days ago, I noticed the skin around the area injected has changed colour. I'm dark skinned and the area has lost pigmentation and turned quite pale.
I spoke to my GP last week and asked her if this is something that usually happens in the injected site and she said she's never seen anything like it before, didn't know why the skin colour would have changed and just said to keep an eye on it.
Does anyone know of this kind of thing happening to anyone or know why?
Thanks

I also discovered from various Orthopaedic sites that loss of pigmentation is a common side effect of Steroid injections. I can't believe my GP did not know this and warn me.
Re Baby, he is huge, 7 months and weighing 23 pounds, but he isn't fat, he has a good pair of Delts on him too and I think he'll be built like a Rugby Player when he grows up. OH is ok, still trying to paper over the cracks.
Hope you are well?
