Started a new job

Hotel Receptionist. Started today. Will be taking telephone bookings tomorrow. Quite nervous about that so just thought perhaps you kind people could give me a few words of wisdom, encouragement etc. x
Only a few months ago I felt like the beginnings of social anxiety were preventing me from doing lots of things. interacting with people, low confidence etc. Suppose since I have left my old old job, the one before the previous I have gained a bit more confidence and experience through my previous retail job. However, the past few months have been a blur and I haven't had time to stop and think. Just got my first day over with at the hotel today and just stopped and thought tonight....what am I doing, have I actually got the confidence, the people skills, the qualities to make me fit in in this new place?? If I think about it too long I feel like no I am not ready, if I think about it briefly or not at all which is what I am trying to do I feel better. I'm just scared these feelings of doubt, insecurity, low confidence, low self esteem might start getting the better of me again. I can not mess this job up.

I feel for you as I too get social anxiety occasionally. It hasnt helped that I was made redundant 7 months ago. Starting a new job in jan though it a totally different field. Starting to get nervous about it already. I do think its easy to over analyis the way we feel about things. Try to concentrate on enjoying the job, meeting new people and growing in confidence. Remember, you beat a lot of other people to get the job so your employers must think you can do it :-) Just be yourself. Good luck.
good advice. I will take it! I still hold back with my personality a bit and I think I really need to let myself go a bit and be more myself ( I am far too polite but with family I am a bit more bantery) and they are a very banterful bunch there so I want to fit in. I find it hard. Hopefully this will improve once I've got to know the job. Not gonna be a dull day here I feel. :-)
Steve, ...thanks, yeah you can definitely over analyse I know what you mean, I used to spend far too much time thinking about my anxieties and it only made them worse. I used to go on a social anxiety forum and although does serve a purpose, I think I have got more confident and less anxious since I stopped going on there. Just read a law of attraction book too which (for those of you who don't know) is about what you think you get, like attracts like etc, and I think there is something in that for sure as the less I think about the negative side the better I feel.
Good luck with you're new job. xxx

You can do it, they know that you can do the job, that's why they gave it to you.
Relax, if you are still worrying after a bit, then promise yourself that with your first pay packet to get your hair done, if the next month you're still worrying get your nails done, for every time you worry about your work promise to treat yourself to something that makes you feel good about yourself on payday as a reward for coping and sticking at it.
You'll be fine, we're all rooting for you.
