I was a bit stupid on Friday and managed to get a trojan virus on my PC. I used my Avg, spybot etc and think I managed to get rid of it appart from a warning (not real - I think, words mispelled etc) and some run dll errors. Was running really slow and wasn't that comfortable, so went and bought Kaspersky Inetrnet Security at the weekend. I had to remove all the stuff I had (AVG ect ) from the machine before uploading the Kaspersky. I had bother getting it loaded on but it does say that it is loaded but that it needs updating, and now I cant get it to run a scan or get onto the internet for it to get the upgrades, I sometimes cant even get the PC open without it blue screening and chucking me out. I have tried to run the scan in "safe mode" and even then it stops. Is this the virus fighting with Kaspersky, or the Kaspersky causing the problem? - it is worse now that it was before.
Hi
This is a mess, and you need some help there. Too much to instruct you on. You may need to remove old Antivirus progs, clean up, use HijackThis and LSPFix, you may need to restore files from Windows disc .. loads!
Make sure AVG is removed if you're using Kasp.
Clean up all temp files (if you get a start) and try to run Hijackthis to see what's running. That's just a start!
Sorry just seen the previous post. DO NOT use HijackThis unless you know exactly what you are doing, as you could really mess up your system. (i've been enrolled in HiJack operating for over 6mths and l still don't know it all)
Thanks guys - will look into those. Just as an update - I have now managed to get Kaspersky properly loaded and updated through safe mode - it has identified a problem, but every time I try to get it to delete the files, it blue screens me again. I managed to get rid of one of the run errors through the registry editor, but so far still cannot get rid of last issues or use PC when not in safe mode. I'll keep trying though!
hi tamborine, if that is the problem, can i reload the windows disk without overwriting everything else on the PC? The virus I had on Friday was only "identified" on Saturday which is why I needed to do the updates before it found it. It affects the start up, so I guess it is it that has deleted or altered the .dll files - though you never know!
