I really suffer with excema and at this time of year it gets really dry and cracks. It is very red and itchy with tiny blisters all over my left hand. I have tried all the creams going at the Doctors since i was very young. Does anyone know of any other treatments i could try? Open to all suggestions as i have tried most things. Thanks, and can i just say..."Happy New Year" to everyone!

I had excema once and it just kept spreading no matter what I tried. I saw a dermatologist and he told me that excema is due to allergic response to the surrounding environment, so instead of dealing witht the blisters, we must first focus on your allergy. You can perform an allergy test but I'm not sure where to find such services, maybe you could try your local clinics. It's a test to determine what your skin is particularly allergic to eg dust.

My doc prescribed an anti allergic cream (any antihistamine drugs) to surpress the inflammation and because it also got infected he prescribed antiseptic cream and antibiotics. It worked wonders! :) Happy new year!

yep. you have to work from the inside out with eczema.

When my son was a baby he had it very bad all over and it took about 6 weeks to get rid of it for good!  As he was breastfeed i took probiotics (acidophillus from health shop, not yakult type drinks) and cut out cows milk and used goats instead but that could still aggrivate people.  The cows milk protein does get into breast milk.  They believe its the main cause of colic in babies.  Not being able to tolerate cow milk protein, after it is meant for baby cows not us!

we also saw a homeopath and that was what got rid of it for good.  I swear it worked wonders.

Cheers, i did go for an allergy test but they could only test me on what i believed to be triggers so i didn't find it that helpful as there are many things that could trigger it. I have tried cutting out food groups but it made no difference. Thanks for the other suggestions though, it is much appreciated!

I had a friend before and she had Excema really bad. She was told to go tanning...and it cleared it up big time!!! give it a shot..
a test for eczema was done using evening primrose capsules and their was a vast improvement..also you can buy a gel called witch vera available from health stores they also have a web site..just type in jason~natural.com you could also make yourself some chickweed ointment you gather the chickweed put it in a coffee jar on a warm window ledge for about 10 days shake the jar daily..strain the herb off,,and melt beeswax in a basin over hot water add your herb oil then pour into jars,,and it will set into an ointment,,you can add olive oil or jojoba oil or even evening primrose oil to the herb in the coffee jar,,it can also be done with sunflower oil ..you can buy the bees wax from nealsyard remedys..they do an excellent mail order..

My fathers' partner uses Oilatum for her eczema, for a free sample, either click or copy & paste on the following link: http://www.oilatum.co.uk/offers/

Salcura spray. This halted my son's excema in it's tracks. Order from www.salcuraonline.co.uk or buy it cheaper on ebay.
there's this cream called 'Eumovate' that my friend has and it works wonders. not sure if you've tried this or if you need a prescription for it?

For all medical questions, we strongly advise you to seek professional advice from your doctor or a healthcare professional.  Please do not rely on, or wait for, advice from Answerbank users.
It's a matter of experimenting until you find one that suits you.
My son was born with eczema and had it really bad until he was 4 when he began to grow out of it.

We now find Elecon Ointment and Epaderm cream the best for him. He used to use Eumovate and it IS very good but at the time wasn't strong enough for him.

BTW Eczema isn't always caused by food intolerances. My son was advised by one of these Health Shop food allergy testers that he was dairy intolerant. Luckily I ignored her advice to cut out all his favourite foods. He drinks probably twice as much milk as he used to when he was younger and his skin is almost clear.
It COULD be that he was suddenly able to tolerate dairy products but I think it was more a combination of growing out of the eczema and finding a cream that worked.

ECZEMA - An over the counter cream that works as well as the hydrocortisone ointment (as prescribed by my skin specialist) is Boots Calamine & Glycerin Cream. It is non greasy and inexpensive! It keeps my Eczema 100% under control.
