REACTION AFTER A FALL

This is very strange. I am in my 60's and a few days ago I tripped and fell forwards, just scuffing my knees, I was fine. About 4 hours later pain started in my big toe and I couldn't walk or put my shoe on. I assumed I had sprained it in the fall, but was amazed it didn't hurt immediately. I took pain killers and the next morning I was fine. Then suddenly all the front of my foot along my toes started to itch and I wanted to scratch and scratch. There is no rash or cracked skin like athletes foot, just this awful itching. The cream I put on didn't help although it says for itching. I couldn't sleep last night, I kept putting a wet flannel over my foot to ease the itching. Could I have done any other damage in the fall? It is a very strange one this, my husband hasn't heard of anything like it.
Many thanks in advance, I know there are so many clever people on this site.

lid...I cannot see any connection between your fall and your toe pain and itching.

Pain in the big toe would suggest Gout, but it cleared up far too quickly for gout. Itching with no rash is indeed odd.

Monitor the situation and report back.

Thanks Sqad. I didn't think the trip could effect my itching, just a coincidence I reckon. I did think of athletes foot but there is no redness or cracking of the skin, just this blooming awful itching. Thank you again for answering,
