Raised pressure in the eye
3 Answers
Good evening ABers.
I have just returned from the hospital eye clinic after suffering yet another bout of herpes simplex in my eye. ( I get this about twice a year). Does anyone know why this kind of viral infection would cause the pressure inside my eye to shoot up to 35? (I believe that the normal range is between 11-14). I have three different eye drops to put in, one of which will reduce the pressure. Also, would this infection be responsible for the sharp headache over my eye and the slight 'sick' feeling I am experiencing?
If anyone else has this problem, or knows about it, I would be grateful for any feedback. There is stuff on the internet but I doesn't say WHY the IOP goes up!
Thanks all. Best wishes, Maz x

It relies on the normal function of the production of aqueous humor amd its normal drainage outflow which is at the edge of the cornea at its junction with the iris.
With problems like yours the is an inflammatory response in the eyes amd these inflammatory cells can partially block the drainage channel thus increasing the pressure in the eye.
Try googling 'secondary glaucoma due to inflammation'.
