Pain in my Kneecap

Whenever I am walking, I suddenly get a pain in my kneecap, it is as if the kneecap tries to give way, it is quite painful and then goes back to normal. A knee strap helps a lot but what could it be ?

I don't know what's causing it but I suffer from it too. It seems as though you've been stabbed in the knee.
