Abnormal Smears
29 Answers
Situation is a 20yr old had an abnormal smear result in July last year.(Her first smear)
She had to be re-tested in October and that came back abnormal as well.
She's since had another smear and it has come back abnormal with a letter saying she will be in hospital within max 8wks.
No other info re treatment.
She wont phone hospital and I cant as they wouldnt discuss with me.
Has anyone else had same at similar age?

I had something abnormal noted during a general investigation at a women's clinic when I was about the same age, must have been 2000 so would have been 21.
I had a colposcopy and they checked things out, removed a lump to biopsy and all was fine.
I am in two minds to suggest whether Jade Goody's example might help as to not sticking your head in the sand as, as if she hadn't it has been said she could have been treated and survived, though don't want to scare the girl too much as most things, especially at that age, are nothing sinister at all.
I've had a number of scares, mostly with breast lumps but none of them have ever turned out to be nasty even with cancer in my family.
If there was a serious worry I'm sure the fast track waiting list is far quicker than 8 weeks, 2 if I remember rightly and with one of my breast lump scares I was in within days.

Hi Dris...I had an abnormal smear in 2003 and all where fine after apart from my last one in december which came back with mild abnormalities, I was refered straight away to the hospital and had to have colposopy (an examination of the cerivix) this was fine and I didnt feel a thing, the pre cancer cells showed up and I was booked in within 5 days to have loop biopsy, when I went for the biopsy the specialist told me that the women who examined me previously was worried it wasnt mild changes but severe....anyway, procedure over with, its been 5 weeks since and am still waiting my results, although they did say 4-6 weeks....hope this is of some help! x
jenna-I though that as well re fast tracking.Im sure if it was sinister she would be in now.I was in within a week after my breast scare.Im glad youre fine -scary tho.

Good luck Dris, thinking of you both. One good thing is that your daughter's "in the system" - if she hadn't been for her smear in the first place, any abnormality might not have shown up until a lot later. I hope you can persuade her to make that call - fingers crossed for both of you. Let us know.
Thanks Dris, just to let you nkow, my friend got her results back and all clear now, she has to have another colposcopy after 6 months to make sure it hasnt come back....me on the other hand still waiting, rung up the hospital this morning to be told my sample has not even been looked at yet after nearly 6 weeks, got an apology and they told me they are going to hurry them up....so im not a fan of the NHS right now lol x
Sorry boxtops and lil -i didnt expect any more answers.
Well as ive told boxtop tonight she is definitly in denial to the extent she has booked a holday and is off in 3wks and is partying like theres no tomorrow.I do understand as she is frightened but I have to make her phone the Hospital and at least say when she is away and then that way i can get a foot in the door. Its weighing heavy on me and with her as well but in a different way.Im usually assertive but in this case im really walking on eggshells and suppose to an extent im frightened as well as I have been really narkier and more intolerant than i usually am -hard to believe !!
lil -o bless -good news for your pal -thats obviously what im looking towards with my daughter -not just the good news obviously but if thats all the treatment she'll need.
As well you stirred them up -keep me posted and fingers crossed for ya hun xx
