I know you can get them from American websites, but is there any UK sites? Because I'd rather give the money than pay the rediculous postage charge. So does anyone know of somewhere in the UK that does, and isn't using the wristband thing as a money making venture.

Thanks

There lies the problem - how do you tell a genuine site / supplier from a rip-off? And even if they are genuine, what proportion of your donation will actually be going to provide relief and how much is swallowed up by costs? (cost of band, postage, and "administration" etc.)

(Think of charity Christmas cards, where sometimes only about 10 or 15p of the three quid you shelled out actually goes to charity - yet they can still call them 'charity cards'.)

If you want to make a donation, make it directly to the DEC or one of the major charities involved (or at least a recognised charity). Because of their economies of scale, you can be sure that the largest proportion of your donation is going to where it is needed.

If everyone did this, there would be less opportunity for the inevitable scams and cons that arise in times like these, and you can be sure that you won't be funding the scum that prey on people's goodwill and benevolence.

Admittedly, you won't have a band on your sleeve to show you've donated, but that's not really the point, is it?

Thanks for that insight, as for the dec all my donations have gone to them, the point was that I wear the yellow Armstrong band to show my support, but also for sport to remind me of what Armstrong has accomplised.

So when I'm feeling like I can't play on I see that and it reminds me that all things are possible when you put your mind to it!

So hence the samething here, but I don't want to waste money that I would rather goto the DEC than to some fat cats pocket.

If there isn't somewhere for this then I won't get one, its that simple.

So don't judge me, cos I only wear things that have a meaning to me, not what other people think, because believe me, a lot of people don't even know what these bands mean, yet they still wear them because somebody on tv does.

Sorry, mixers82, wasn't trying to be critical or judgemental - sorry if I came across that way.

i know exactly how you feel, i would much rather prefer paying by check rather than credit card which most sites require. The wristbands available from american sites come in at least packs of 10. you could try www.oxfam.co.uk or go to the shop they sell the 'make poverty history' bands in shops mind when i ordered sum off a link from the bbc website i ordered 10 bands about 2-3 weeks ago nd they still havent arrived, and i sent them a letter with a cheque. So it goes to show you can't be to sure with any really.                      hope thats appears to be any use.
