am i chasing a nursing dream?

i'm a 33 yr old single mum, and ever since i left school i have been in full time work within the nhs, until the birth of my daughter 2 and a half years ago, now i work part time and care for my girl. i've been a healthcare assistant for 10 years in a gp surgery and to quote my nursing colleagues 'i am effectively a nurse, i should do my nursing degree' this is ultimately what i know i should do and really want to do. I am meant to care for people and i enjoy where i work, but understand that i will have to pull myself out of my current employment to do this which is sad. That is PRESUMING i was accepted for my nursing degree course-i have all the relevant qualifications and 10 years of 'nurses experience' behind me. My question i guess is, does anyone know if it would be possible financially for me to do it? I don't know much about bursaries, student loans, allowances for children etc, i'm desperate to provide a better future for me and my little girl, but i understand if im not able to do this because my finances won't allow it, ie rent , bills etc my wages aren't great at the moment anyway, but i'd love to become a recognised nurse. Any advice would be gratefully received. Thankyou.

You can copy and paste the following link olivia, it should give you a rough idea of what bursary you will get (diploma only) You will still get child credits too! Good luck...Im starting uni in Jan to do adult nursing diploma (im 41) so its never too late!

If you do the degree you get a lot less but you can get a student loan. I have a few friends who done the diploma for the first 2 years then they swapped over to do degree in their third year
