read the leaflet that came with the prescription.
Usually no. Doesn't the bottle tell you?
What does it say on the label till because it's not normally recommended
Actually usually yes......unless specified differently.

The leaflet didn't mention alcohol, but it seems to be common knowledge that it's a bad thing to do.
Anyway sorry for posting, I forgot to search first, and there's similar questions on already.
It's always suggested when taking antibiotics do not use alcohol.
From the NHS website................

It is sensible to avoid drinking alcohol when taking medication. However, it is unlikely that drinking alcohol in moderation will cause problems if you are taking most common antibiotics.
Generally i think it's OK except for one type (maybe begins with M which is not helpful). Dentist gave them to me and in Boots they said if i had a drop I would be really sick. Didn't believe her but googled and saw that this one group reacts very badly.
I didn't finish the course!!
Depends on the actual biotic. I remember a number of years ago being prescribed a very powerful antibiotic by my dentist who was unable to remove a tooth due to a raging abcess and being warned that on no account should I partake of alcohol. I ignored the warning and within 5 minutes of consuming a small gin and tonic was violently sick. By the same token I now have to take 2 small doses of antibiotics per day for life as I have had my spleen removed. They don't seem to interact with drink (thank God!) . Basically, if the label on the bottle says don't, then don't, otherwise go ahead.
I've been on a couple for which I was told alcohol was an absolute no no.

I'm sure one of them was after I had a wisdom tooth out due to an infection.

I also had a cheeky drink while on another one for cellulitis and not sure if it's coincidental that it all flared up again nastily shortly after.

Someone told me it can prevent them from working properly but not sure how true that is and if if differs depending on the one you're on.

If you want to get yourself better though it might not be worth risking finding out. Is it that important for you to have a drink?

You would think there would be a warning on the leaflet if anything really bad would happen. I remember being warned a number of times about the one I was on after my wisdom tooth infection, dentist and chemist a few times each!

What are you taking and what for if not too personal a question?
Is that you on your avatar, lardhelmet? I pictured you from your user name as a rather burly male biker!
Think the issue with antibiotics and alcohol is not that you will have a "wobbily" but that the alcohol reduces the effects of the tablets. Probably depends what you are on. Maybe Sqad can answer your question (did I spell his name correctly)?
Yes.

There really is only one antibiotic that shouldn't be mixed with alcohol and that is Flagyl which really isn't an antibiotic ;-)
