FAS...Foreign accent syndrome is a very rare condition....there are thought to be just 60 cases worldwide. The woman in question suffered with a particular type of migraine that caused intense pain, and in some cases-brain damage. The brain damage is what has caused this syndrome.
Wasn't there a case of a woman that woke from a coma being able to speak fluent French?
But Chinese isn't the most obvious accent to develop is it?
It was here in Plymouth...we have a fair number of Chinese students here....maybe that's why.....;-0

But really-who knows...?I doubt there is a reason for developing one accent over another.
well, what's a Chinese accent? Presumably it's just a certain way of shaping your mouth or using your vocal cords while talking - in the case of Chinese people, it suggests they're trying to make the sounds typical of the English language while they are used to constructing the sounds of their own language. (eg French people may say 'zees' instead of 'this' because they don't have the 'th' sound in their language and are used to longer vowel sounds than we are).

So something has happened that affects this woman's muscle structure and makes her speak differently. It doesn't actually have anything to do with being 'Chinese'. If she couldn't produce a 'th' sound properly any more, you'd think she was being 'French'.
Ummmm... people have been regressed and have managed to speak fluent Japanese whilst "under". That is more evidence to support the theory of past incarnations.
DOH !!...I should have thought of that....too early for me to be logical. It sounds quite reasonable, jno.
Hmmmmm.....
it's just a guess, pastafreak. It's also possible that she has been taken over by the soul of Jackie Chan.
i got a chinese take away last night and the chinese bloke who served me had a headache and he had a welsh accent
You're right jno, I heard a doctor explaining what happens. He said it's affected her in such a way that her distorted speech just happens to sound Chinese.
