Mr Mac
52 Answers
This isn't really a question, but mr mac had a heart attack yesterday. This is his 2nd in 3 years - the first one being after he got a kidney transplant. He's already on lots of medication for his heart and his kidney, and they're now very limited in what else they can give him in case it damages his kidney. Like I said, it's not a question, I'm just sitting here on my own and felt the need to talk.

I would imagine you have or had contact with a specialist renal nurse in the transplant team, they might be a good person to talk to at the moment,
Which transplant centre was your husband treated at? Some of them have patient and carer suppport groups who might be able to put you in touch with someone who has been there as it were...
There will also be cardiac nurse specialists who can help and advise.

Thanks China Doll, at the moment they're trying to get his heart rate down (it's about158) and his bp up. Once they sort that out we'll have a better idea of what's happening. Rowan, his transplant was at a different hospital and we've not had much contact with them since the transplant, he also goes to cardiology but that's at a different hospital again - all this centralising of services lark. My aunt is the 'super sister' at the hospital he's in and she might be on duty tonight when I go up, so hopefully she'll be able to fill in some of the blanks for me. Thanks again to everyone and good luck with the Alli China :) x
Well good luck my love, I'm afraid I'm just a lowly PA in this big NHS world but should the need ever arise I can be reached at [email protected].
I don't know how much help I can be and I'm an entirely different specialty to your hubbys but my boys will do anything for me and should that include giving advice on specialites on other areas, then I don't doubt they might know a thing or too... or put me straight very quickly! Good luck m'dear.

Hi Wingnut - how is your husband? Hopefully he's enjoying his new kidney and not having any problems. Thanks for your kind words. Same goes to Sara and Society. I was up to see him tonight and they have been able to give him a small dose of the drug to lower his heart rate. It was a bit lower and he was looking much better so fingers crossed things carry on this way. x
Good news! It wasn't a heart attack! Mr mac has a bad chest infection and one of his anti rejection drugs had caused a problem with his white blood count. They've stopped that tablet in the meantime, upped another, given him IV anti biotics and saline and the difference in him today was unbelievable! It's such a relief! I think he'll be in for a few days yet, but his heart rate and bp are back to normal levels and he's human coloured instead of grey again. Thankyou all for your support and kind words yesterday, it means a lot to me.
