best mascara

Am a 'lady of a certain age' going to a wedding in August - don't usually wear eye make up (horses and dogs don't seem to notice if I do anyway) - how can I avoid the gloopy, gooey black in the corner of the eyes look. really want one that seperates the lashes and is dry rather than tacky. also think as I have grey hair, black mascara may look odd - I don't know how good any of the brands are so would appreciate any suggestions. many thanks

I would recommend Chanel Sculpte Cils. It's a very thin separated brush - I have found it to be the only one that doesn't clump or go on too thick. It's around £21.50 but will last you ages.

It's recommended that once you get a bit older you're better going for brown rather than black as it softens your eyes and doesn't look quite so harsh - same goes for liner.

Yes, I agree with karenmac go for brown rather than black and really you can use any brand of mascara so long as it's got a good brush but leave the wand to dry twenty seconds or so before applying to the lashes, this prevents thick clogged lashes.

Worth investing in a lash comb, or if you have an old dried up mascara take the old brush out and wash it so you can brush through your lashes with a clean brush

carmalee, go along to your local makeup department in your High Street and get 'made over' for free. They will use the best colours for you and give you some ideas, get them to write them down, and don't be pressured to buy anything. Then you can go home and decide what make up you would like to wear - you can then probably get similar colours from Rimmel if you can't afford to buy expensive make up, especially if you don't use it a lot. MAC have a good make up counter and so do Clinique, but get that gut feeling and go where you feel happiest. If they are in the right mood, the girls at Clarins and Clinique will give free samples of face creams if you ask for them.

thanks for the suggest Smurfchops - live a bit out in the sticks and don't have a store big enough to have a beauty rep - hear what you are saying though and maybe will pick the hay out of the hair and go to 'a big city' before the wedding.

The wand looks a bit funny at first but is really good at stopping clumps and making my lashes look really long. I used the brown one and its fab :)

Makes me laugh when you watch mascars adverts and theres usually a tiny line at bottom of screen saying **model wearing false eyelashes**
