Unless I dreamed it, the drummer on C'mon Everybody wasn't getting the right sound from his drumkit and dispensed with the snare drum and used a packing case instead. In conversation over the years, I have imparted this information but can't prove it. Can anybody help please?

Never heard of that one, but it's well documented that Ringo played a packing case on the Beatles' version of Buddy Holly's 'Words of Love' on the 'Beatles For Sale' album - to recreate the original sound.
Certainly Jerry Allison, The Crickets drummer, used that technique. I think it was on Not Fade Away, but I may be wrong. Haven't heard it about C'mon Everybody but we live and learn.
