I've wondered how many people I went to school with are no longer alive. I'm in my 30s, I knew about 100 kids in my year.

You should be able to get those statistics from a government department.
For instance in Australia the Burea of Statistics publishes "Life tables"

So, for example less than 2 out of 100 males would be dead at age 30.
Even less for the group that reached school age.
