I am a single female and in need of a holiday, preferably somewhere abroad, warm, and cheap. I am tired of companies trying to make me pay for a single supplement as I always keep reading how many single people there are about these days. I was my mothers carer before she died so didn't go out at all, (Before this I was quite a party animal) so don't have anyone to go with to share the costs. Im in my late forties so 18-25 clubs are out. I would like to come across both female and male company wherever I decide to go. Any ideas. Any useful websites would be much appreciated. Many thanks.

hi yesterday, take a look on the link Ive provided, might be something on there youre interested in

http://www.solosholidays.co.uk/
I would recommend solos as well..........I went with them when I was in my 30's..........my recently divorced friend has been with them for the last 3 years and she's now in her early 60's........

ive just had a look at the solo site. Its much more than I can afford. Guess I'll have to keep looking. Thanks
Jules verne holidays often have 'no single supplement offers'. Not on all dates, but could be worth a look.
what kind of budget do you have yesterday? if you dont mind me asking
If you are going to go with tour companies then you are at their mercy however, you could go independantly by finding and booking hotels on the web and travelling independantly by plane, car, bicycle, train etc. It could change you life (can't say how though).
If you are 50+ Saga (no don't laugh) are amazingly good and generally don't impose a single occupancy surcharge.

The quality of their long haul trips e.g. Egypt, Borneo, Andes, Safaris etc is great and they are very good when you book at sorting out the relatively young and fit from the geriatrics so you are more likely to find yourself with like minded and equally active travel companions.
.
Zeuhl Saga are excellent, but I think they are more expensive than Solo's....

Many thanks to you all, sounds like your trying to get me back in the land of the living. Ta.
yesterday, just seen your thread while browsing for some info about travelling to Egypt. My point though, I'm in a not dissimilar situation to you, desperate for a holiday, 40+, have to go alone (won't go into detail on that). Anyway, I came cross
http://www.explore.co.uk/
EXCELLENT for the single traveller ! Maybe a touch expensive but they do some shorter trips. Have a look at their Facebook page too if you use it (there's a link from their web site or search in FB - they're called Explore!) too, loadsa stories & tips about travelling alone.
Hope you get a hol sorted :o)
CW1, Explore are good for solo travellers, they reckon about half of each group are solos and the rest are couples or friends, but they are on the expensive side. They seem to attract a lot of 'single proffessionals', teachers, doctors etc. Another similar company is Exodus. They do pack a lot into their holidays, but may not be evrybodys cup of tea.
CW1 again - if you are thinking of doing the Explore trip starting in Cairo then going by train to Luxor and down the Nile in their cruise boat, do it - it's very good.
puzzled54, I looked at comparable Nile cruises & Explore were actually the cheapest, for what you get. And I've done with "thinking" about doing it, I'm actually booked on the trip you described ;o)
Have you been on it already ? Any tips ? :))
