My mother has been diagnosed with having a small lymph node on her lung, about the size of a bean the doctor says and has advised her to come back in 3 months and get it checked out again. I have done a search on the internet and its quite a hard thing to find any solid information on. Does anyone know what this is or can explain it a bit better to me. I'm scared that its the first signs of lung cancer or something? Any info gratefully received.

A lymph node on her lung? Are you absolutely positive that is what was diagnosed?

Are you sure they didn't say cyst or bleb on the lung?

no they said lymph node
In all my years as a lung disease sufferer i've never heard of anyone having a lymph node on their lung. You learn something new every day I guess!

Sorry I can't help you with info if that is what it is. If it had been a bleb or cyst I could have written chapter and verse on the subject having had them multiple times myself.

I hope your mum gets better soon.
Lymph nodes are numerous in the lungs.

Was the diagnosis made by her GP or Hospital Consultant and was it on the basis of an X-Ray result?
You learn something new everyday. My son had an infection of the lymph node...in his neck. I just presumed lymph nodes were in the neck and nowhere else.

Sqad...what are Lymph nodes then?
ummmm. lymph nodes are all over your body in what is known as the lymphatic system and they contain cells, blood cells that kill off any organism invading the body and kill it.
Sometimes, the lymph glands lose the battle and this spells trouble for the host.
Yes...2 year old was in hospital for a week. Scary stuff....Took him to emergency doctor. Took one look at him and the questions he asked...

Have you got transport...can you afford a taxi...Do I need to phone an ambulance?
I know there are lymph nodes all over the body, I just didn't realise they were inside or on the lungs sqad.
ummmm, I think the usual treatment is to send in Raquel Welch in a miniaturised submarine.
lol....jno...I don't understand what you mean?
tut, ummmm, does nobody watch the great science fiction classics any more?

Sorry....I don't watch science fiction. I struggled to watch Star Wars..
"knickers in a twist" comes to mind on this thread.

There are NO lymph nodes on the lung or in the lung anatomically.
Main airtube divides into 2, one going left and one going right and with blood vessels and lymph nodes burrow deep into the lung in an area known as the hilum. The hilum is technically outside the lung but practically, inside the lung.
When one looks at an X-Ray of the chest, the hilar lymph glands appear INSIDE of the lung.

These are very important, but as fitforaking doesn,t seem fitforanswer,I will not add anything further.

thanks you for your answer Sqad!! And glad this topic got everyone chatting again, its good to chat!! I dont feel too worried about this situation with my mum, she has to go back to the docs in 3 months for another check up. She's stopping smoking so that should help her health and things are looking rosey! Thanks and thanks again xx
