Yesterday me, my own children and all the children I childmind for went for a family picnic day which was situated on a playing field that had the big electricity pylons running through it. We could all hear the electricity buzzing from them but then we all noticed that everytime a child was touched they were actually vibrating for a few seconds. This must have been from the pylons but I have never known this to happen ever! It was so weird and made me feel uneasy, especially when my 7mth old baby was vibrating too. Could it do the kids any harm? What about the people who live right next to them?

and to Stevie..
"wouldn't there be several thousand people a year contracting brain tumours"

yes there are.. about 4,500 people per year develop a brain tumour!

Sorry Tigwig - didnt mean to hijack your original thread like this!!! Most curious as to the vibrating children though!!!! Very strange!!
Quite honestly Nosha I wouldn't let kids have mobile phones anyway until they are least secondary school age. There is no need for them. I don't rule out the findings, was only trying to say that they are not proven and there are a lot of other things that have to be taken into consideration. I think there are a lot of things, too many to mention, that are very dangerous to our health these days - one of them being the use of too many antibacterial this, that and the other!! But that's a whole new subject.

Sorry tigwig.

I shouldn't think this brief spell on a picnic would have done any harm whatsoever.
My dad died of a brain tumour :o(
Piece in todays SUN is about a field near Bath where light bulbs are illuminated purely from the energy given out my overhead power lines.
Nosha first of all sorry to hear about your cousins daughter.
You go on to say " who all warned of the potential dangers that COULD be there"
That does not sound conclusive evidence neither does one study at the university.
Can I ask you a question, you say campaigners want a 50m buffer zone what about the electrical cables that run under all of our homes and streets, is this a different type of electricity or can electricity only harm us if it is hanging above our heads?
So sorry to hear that Lofty.... I know how awful it is to see someone go through that!

And McMouse - WOW WOW WOW!! I feel like I want to ask if thats True - but then you state it was in the Sun newspaper - so now I'm not sure!! ;-)

I have seen that YouTube video where these people cook popcorn with a mobile phone! Funny to watch but scary too huh!
We only have overhead power lines where we live, nothing underground at all. I am definitely doomed. They don't fry the birds sitting on them and I wonder if a survey has been done on birds living near power lines. Sorry, I am being silly!
Stevie - I guess that there is jst not enough funding to do all these studies - and if it isnt one thing that can kill us its another! From pesticides to plastic to car fumes - no-one can avoid it all...

The people I know that recommended not to use mobiles unless necessary - I agree its not conclusive evidence - but since they are medical experts in that field - its enough for me.

Dont know how we can all go about avoiding electrical cables underground - or whether they pose a danger.. but having lived through the despair and sadness of my family losing their daughter - the mobile phone issue is one close to my heart. I dont want to preach to others - but if we can all be warned about the possiblities then maybe someone can be saved
ha ha ROFL LoftyLottie

Butch was that real or a publicity stunt?
If that is indeed real it's quite a scary prospect.

In answer to your question tigwig I have never heard or experience that before. I used to live next door to a pylon and the noise was dreadful. But then I was only a kid so it didn't matter much. Though I would never buy a house next to a pylon now.
The question is, who do you report it to? If I was you I'd ring the local newspaper and get them involved cos the elceccy people will fob you off!

Good luck hun :-)
Thanks butch i was just reading about it here

This has made me think it's even weirder now as I was expecting at least one other person to say they had experienced the same thing! I will have to go back to the same spot another time and see if it does it again. If it had only being me noticing it I would think I was mad but at least 6 other people said the same.
