Are honey and lemon the best cure for a scratched throat.

I work in a call centre. After putting in some extra hours and our lines being very busy, I got a sore and very hoarse throat. I had no cold or cough. After a few days, a dry cough with some phlegm developed.
I have had this cough now for two weeks, minus the phlegm. A doctor has listened to my chest and It is clear, with no signs of infection. She recommended drinking hot water with honey and lemon.
I have, but with only short term results.
Anyone have any other suggestion???
