wisdom tooth pain..

Hi,
Ok I have very very bad wisdom tooth pain from my upper right jaw, I cannot eat, hardly talk or even open my mouth. Pain killers do not take away anypain and my face apparently looks very swollen. I actually do not have a dentist and cant remember when the last time I was at one. I do remember when I was small the dentist saying I would need teeth removed for it to have room and me being young and scared of needles never went back. I was just googling my problems when I read on a page about life threatening problems with wisdom teeth???? Is this true?? Im in sooo much pain. Thing is if I cant even open my mouth for a slice of toast how will she fit her instruments in my mouth?? :( hmmmm.... x

Make an appointment with your dentist. He'll tell you what to do next. You could have an infection and might need anti-biotics.

I feel so sorry for you, but you have to find a dentist, many deal with very nervous patients, also in my town we have a drop in dentist who will always see you that day.
I had 2 wisdom teeth out when pregnant with absolutely no problems at all. Good luck

Agree with Langara, you MUST get to a dentist somehow. While it's not life threatening, the pain from toothache in unbearable, i'd rather give birth to children than have toothache again!

I't sounds like you might have an abcess, and unfortunately that won't go away. It might go down for a while, but it will flare up again.

My heart goes out to you, i had an abscess and i can tell you it was the worst pain I've ever had, that dull throbbing consistent and persistent pain nearly had be ripping the tooth out with a screwdriver many times but it was only the fact that I was told that ripping the tooth out with a screwdriver could possibly rupture an Artery and have me bleed to death. Not really the same as yours but I thought I'd share.

My abcsess gave me that much pain, i was gobbling painkillers like Smarties (to no effect) and literally rocking myself in bed, crying in pain throughout the night.Like I said, childbirth is preferable to toothache!

upper wisdom teeth come out much easier than lower ones, the roots are shorter. I had one out at the dentist a few months ago and it seriously took less than 2 minutes.

Childbirth for me was a doddle, and over in a matter of hours...toothache lasts eternity, or so it seems.

Boo are you serious in your comparison? A woman once told me that childbirth was like having a giant toothache, in another place.

I was in hospital for 5 days with an abscess when I was younger. I didn't even have my wisdom teeth :-(

I know everyone's different, but whilst childbirth was bad- i'd rather go through it than have toothache.

Suppose it doesn't help that im scared witless of dentists, to the point where my dentist prescribes me vallium just for checkups, im that much of a wreak when I visit her.

Notnotnot, if you phone your primary care trust, they will find you a dentist, even if it's not immediately near you, somewhere there will be a walk-in dentist - they have to offer you emergency care even if you are not registered with them. Get on the phone now, look up your local PCT on the internet if you are not sure who they are. The longer you leave it the worse any infection may become, then you will be in trouble which may take ages to clear up. I feel for you, but you need a dentist, If you can't find your PCT, ring your doctor, they will be able to give you the number.

I have all four of my wisdom teeth fully grown with no problems at all. At the start my dentist put me on antibiotics to reduce the swelling. There was no need to remove any other teeth to make room as the wisdoms were growing straight. Eating though was virtually imposible - I had to liquidise my portion of the family meal - often I would have a roast chicken dinner soup, Sausage and Mash soup etc etc.
"Oil of Cloves" helped a bit as it numbs the gums so eases the pain.
You have to go to a dentist though to get it sorted - they will xray the area to see how they are growing then make a decision on wether or not to extract or let them grow naturally. Good luck.

My wisdom teeth got infected and I didn't have a dentist, went to a surgery on an emergency basis and they took one out in the chair then and there. I have always been fine with dentists (still never a filling to this day) and needles generally but had a fear of having an injection in my gums. I have to say, the pain was so bad he could have stuck all the ruddy needles in there he wanted if it meant it took the pain away. Definitely cured my fear :)

I ended up having the other 3 taken out altogether under a general.

Waiting definitely didn't help, it just got worse so you need to get seen. If it was elsewhere I assume you'd get it seen to?

Dentists deal with things like abcesses and infected wisdom teeth all the time so I'm sure they will be able to do whatever is needed.
