we have had our fridge freezer almost a year. the back of the fridge freezes up really quickly and has grown so much now that it is almost covering the light. i rang up comet as we are still covered with them until dec. the woman said she would speak to a technician in the background. she came back and said that if we read the booklet, which we cant find, that we have to defrost it every two to three weeks, surely that cant be right! the technician also said that this happens with this particular model and its due to when opening the door, hot air hits the back of the fridge, nb the fridge is the top half just in case this matters! surely this cant be right either, you have to open a fridge door after all and hot air is going to get in. im flabbergasted. we pay for an extra policy to cover it which wont kick in until december. do you think i should wait now? ive never heard anything like it, have you?

just had a look, its a hotpoint iced diamond, rfa52
Is the fast freeze turned on?
Question Author
mmmm, now where would that be?
You will have a dial which indicates No's 1-6 on it.........turn Temp control down bit by bit as it may be too cold......hence the freezing. No 6 is the Coldest setting.
Read the manual. Other people have had this problem and found turning the fast freeze off cures it. There should be a button somewhere.
They can't find the manual! Is mine the only household where manuals and receipts are stored safely until they are needed. It's not difficult.

is the knob in the fridge, at the back by the light that is now almost invisible due to 3 inches of ice? if its that knob then i think its on number 4 as any less and it wasnt doing much.
I have just bought a hotpoint - fast freeze button is on the inside at the top. Open the door and look at the top ledge
Turn it down to 3 and check periodically to see how Freezer is behaving If setting is too high it's too cold.

just had another look. all i can see is a knob thats on 4. also spotted a switch underneath with a line and a circle on it. it was pressed down to the circle i think. it seems back to front to me. is this the fast freeze button then?
"Is mine the only household where manuals and receipts are stored safely until they are needed."

Absolutely. I throw all mine away as soon as I get them, along with any guarantees. It's not like anything is ever going to break down.

i am about to defrost it as its mount everest at the back, then start again! im dreading opening it ever again and letting hot air into it, heaven forbid!
There should be an Indicator light which indicates when 'Fast freeze' Button is on. Make sure it is 'OFF'
Question Author
cant see this unless its under the ice, there is nothing on the inside at the top davethedog.
Is this ITV's " 71 Degrees North" in sound only?
Yes it's Freezing gingejbee !! lol
Hi, Hotpoint recommend defrosting the fridge freezer every 6 months so there may be something wrong with it. Take a look at the link below which is Hotpoint's own telling you on average how often it should be done. The second link of the 2 is the manual for the one that you have.

Have you had a look at this site, to see if the owner's manual is available on-line? http://www.fixya.com/...oLcvqQCFWIA4wodYXzxKA
