Hope someone can help - our local school (in Hereford) needs a celebrity (that 6 year olds will recognise) to 'open' a priate ship (it's a piece of playground equipment) that has been bought in memory of a little boy who died. I would love to hear from anyone who could help. Thanks. (PS - the Head has suggested Boyce of Only Fools and Horses!)

if you cannot find a real celeb (not sure how many 6 year olds would recognise boyce tbh) how about a costumed character from a popular tv show?

at least they would recognise them?
It really depends how much you can afford. Some of these "celebrities" wont get out of bed for less than a few thousand. Is there a local sports personality they usually do that sort of thing as good publicity
What about someone off Ceebeebies? 6-year-olds won't know Boycie! There must be famous people living locally who would like to help a local project in return for a pic in the newspaper.

Hi Cazzz - that's another option that they are looking at (the little boy loved Iron Man) but everyone is trying really hard to make it special (if you see what I mean). (I agree that Boyce would be a bit pants - no offence to him.)

Hi both - I think we are looking at a freebie here. I have googled and the youngest person (who they might have heard of) who lives in the county is Richard Hammond.
you could try an agency for a real one

or maybe an agency for a cheaper lookalike version?http://www.alivenetwork.com/bandsearc

Johnny Depp just visited a primary school in Greenwich, London where he is making another pirate film at the moment - I don't know if he often does that sort of thing but the pirate connection and reason might appeal to him - you could write to his agent - he can only say no if it's not convenient.
the real thing cost a few quid.

most primary aged kids would recognise "dick and dom"
why don't you see who's in panto at your local theatre?

You might be able to contact Johnny Depp through the film unit at Greenwich Council if he is still in the borough. Their contact email is

HI Butch - you're not the only one!
easy, hire a costume (bob the builder/sportacus/tinky winky/tweenies ect) one of the teachers wears the costume and that saves a fortune in money and the kids will be perfectly happy

Thanks Carrott - I'll give that a try.
I think Sara3's suggestion is good.
Every xmas Mr Funny has to dress up as Santa and the kids aren't puzzled as to why their santa has a black face!!!!!

Hi Cazzz - we could do that but I am trying to be a smart ar$e and see if I can get somebody brilliant before we dress the Head up as Sportacus (although I would pay go money to see that).
askyourgran, me too ;o)
