I was wondering if anyone could help me, I am very annoyed and upset! :(
I have attended the same health club for nearly a year now. Today, I found out it had 'ceased to trade' . This was what was written on the window when I went for my workout this morning!
The only thing is I (and many others) have paid a whole years membership in advance (as it worked out cheaper) and i'm concerned I wont get my money back now. I thought it was a well known and respected gym as there's so many branches in the UK. The head office number has been cut off and when you call the branches, they just ring out.
Is anyone aware of who I can complain to and possibly claim back my money. I only paid in August.

If, as has probably happened, the firm has gone bankrupt, then you, and fellow subscribers, will be last in the queue when the remaining assets are desitributed after the major players - Inland Revenue, Exchequer, Suppliers, and so on. The last in line will be lucky to see 10p in the pound of the amount they are owed, and only then if they chase through the courts for it, and don;t mind waiting a couple of years.
Best to assume that your cash has gone - there's nothing you could have done, don't waste time and energy, and certainly not money, trying to chase the funds they owe you. Sorry.
This seems to happen faierly requently to health clubs. There's on ewhere I live that has closed twice then reopened with a new name, not honouring memberships taken under the previous name.
At least you had nearly a years membership out of them. The one here was taking annual memberships the day before they closed.
I think you don't stand any chance of getting your money back.
