Hello my love. I realise you won't probably see this til tomorrow, but I thought I'd post now while I think about it.

I've had at least 3 throat infections in the last 6 weeks. In the last few days, I've had my second cold this month which started in the throat and ended up on the chest. Today I woke up with a blistering sore throat again and my glands are swollen right up to my ears. I've had a slight rash on my face which has now disappeared, and a touch of bachache in the lower back, to the right. I've been feeling incredibly lethargic, on and off.

Last week I had a really bad fever/temperature which preceeded this most recent cold and I spent an entire 2 evenings throwing the bed covers off me.

Do you think this may be a recurring bout of EBV?

Even if NoMercy were much older none of the health problems she has listed could be attributed to the menopause.

I was going to say it sounds like glandular fever - but on checking I've discovered what EBV is :) The site I was looking at did say you can only get it once though. On another note I noticed the other day you had put a thread asking about chicken soup - there was a bit in the paper today saying it does have anti-inflammatory properties and reduces movement of white blood cells which can cause congestion and other symptoms of the cold.

Karen, my GP told me that Glandular Fever can recur. I was diagnosed first in 1999 and about 2-3 year later, had a recurring bout.

I took 600mgs of Ibuprofen an hours ago and the pain hasn't lessened in the slightest. It really hurts to swallow and my ears are killing me.

When I left the house the other morning, I had a really bad dizzy spell and my eyes went completely out of focus. I've ignored all the individual symptoms, but when I sit down and add them all up, I can see there's something afoot.

The other thing that's stuck out is my complete lack of concentration recently.

Well if you've already had it twice then the site I looked at is obviously wrong :) It definitely sounds like glandular fever - my best friend had it years back and I remember she complained of pretty much all of your symptoms. I hope you get to the bottom of it and start feeling better soon x

Karen, GF is a bit like ME... divided opinions! I know from experience that you can have it twice - second time around I had secondary tonsilitis and ulcerated tonsils. I cannot even begin to explain how painful that was.

I would like to be fighting fit when I start my new post (whenever that's going to be!). I received a formal written offer in the post yesterday, and by God, there are some forms to fill in!

Boxy... nothing special, just an Assistant Med Sec in T&O. It's entry level but provides a lot of training and I positively look forward to not having to chase work the way I have done for the past 15 years!

NoMercy, sound like you are going through an awful lot. The descriptions of your aches and pains, I honestly feel badly for you. Earache... phew! I hope your pain subsides soon and you get well real soon. x

Thanks, Boxy. I'm still perplexed as to how I got offered the job above all the other applicants, but I won't look a gift horse in the mouth! It will provide a stable income whilst I seek supplementary forms of imcome similtaneously. I am, above all things, looking forward to expanding my IT skills and broadening my administrative skillset. I remember the principal interviewer saying that Medical Terminology can be picked up, but if you don't have decent grammar, you're bu.ggered! lol

Hi NoMercy- I really hope you get to the bottom of this as it is exactly what I have had. I had a headache and swollen glands which then went to my throat, sore and scratchy, cold symptoms, lethargic, then chest infection. I had all this fairly mildly and it went away; then it came back! That's never happened before! Only this time the cough is the worst one I have had in my life. It makes me sick each time I cough cos of the violence of the cough- and today my voice has completely gone and it feels like I am swallowing razor blades. My stomach hurts due to all the coughing!
I also have had vision problems with this- unable to focus, lack of concentration and inability to cope with bright lights.
I do hope you get it sorted! I am on day 2 of antibiotics but they haven't helped so far.

LOL NoM.... You obviously impressed! There are short courses on offer on Medical Terminology at several levels down here, I'd tell you about them if you weren't so far away!

By God, Scarlett, you sound poorly! What antibiotics are you on, and why did the Doc prescribe them? Things like the common cold and GF/EBV are viral and thus they do not respond to antibiotics. I have been a bit chesty with the cold, but haven't had a terrible cough as such.

Hi all - when my twins were about 3 months old I was really poorly - high tempreature, felt like death warmed up, all the skin came off my hands and the soles of my feet and I really thought I was going to die. The doctors thought it was Kawasaki's disease (only little Japanese girls get it though) and I was sent for urgent heart tests and a dermatological consultation (the day after seeing the doctor) - I truly thought I was a gooner. In the end they decided it was Glandular Fever. I think that anything that they are not 100% sure of they diagnose as GF. Hope you both feel loads better ASAP. x
