I'm  women in my 40s. just after my last of 4 children was born, my hair began to fall out at the top front of my head. Its now thinned out a lot. My Dr said it was due to a combination of things such as stress and the fact that my dad and mum had thinning hair. Is there any way I can incourage regrowth.

I was looking at wrinkle treatments when I remembered your question!! Have a look at www.inhousepharmacy.co.uk and type in "Retin-A" in the search box. It is used for acne and wrinkles but also has a positive effect on thinning hair when combined with minoxidil. (Don't know what that is myself though)

Alternatively i'm sure Google can find you lots of web sites. I do think you should ask your Dr to refer you to a trichologist - or you could pay to see one yourself. It must be very distressing for you!
