My house is freezing but the heating is on full!

This has been the case for the last 2 winters now! My house has always been warm.
I live in an inner terrace house and ever since my neighbors had damp proofing done i cant get the house warm.Is this just coincidence or could this be the cause?
The radiators are red hot,its moderately warm downstairs but upstairs is freezing!
We have been getting mold in the bathroom and around the windows upstairs too,we have never had mold and i have lived here for 10 years.
Could someone help and tell me what i could do to improve this?

Let's start with the obvious:
The current recommended minimum thickness for loft insulation is 270mm (10.6"). If your insulation is any thinner (as it may well be if it was installed some time ago) you ought to top it up.

Yeah that was something that i thought of,problem is we don't have a loft hatch! I thing the ceilings have been lowered at some point.But why would this only start within the last few years? wouldn't it have been cold all along?

If your neighbour's house is now more thermally efficient, he can turn his own heating down. That means that less heat will come through the wall to you.

the rads are fine upstairs,all are red hot.

The last two winters have been exceptionally cold, which may partly explain it.

Well honestly, it's just inconsiderate innit?

Insulating your house to the degree your neighbours are cold, whilst you stay toasty warm.

Ceiling insulation if necessary .. and secondary double glazing if you only have single glazing upstairs.

Probably a combination of the very very cold winters we have had recently. And also I guess your neighbors house is more thermally efficient. I live in a gable end house and my neighbor moved and left the house empty for 6 month. Our house is effectively a detached house now and the temperature has dropped dramatically !! My mother in law also noticed a difference in her heating when the next door house was sold after being empty for 3 years!! Being made of stone, our home does not have cavity walls and therefore we are unable to have wall insulation. The answer is basically to retain as much heat you put out as possible. Loft insulation, draft excluders etc.
Turning off the heat is also a no no in a stone built terraced house as it takes so much time to reheat! I know from experience that keeping the heating on just even slightltly warm, maintains the heat in the house and when it drops really cold than crank it up.

Do you have double glazing? we are mid-terrace and although the windows are glazed, the doors aren't done yet and are still draughty. Our house was built in 1860 and draughts sneak in through skirting boards. Rugs, door curtains, etc., help for us.

We live in an old stone farm house.

During the summer we ripped out some dry-lining that the previous occupier put in, that didn't help with a damp problem we found. In order to sort it, we installed 55mm insulated plasterboard, and that has made a drastic difference to heat retention
