New Years Eve - What to cook

My boyfriend and I will be house/cat sitting at my sisters flat in London on new years eve. It might sound a bit dull but we are looking forward to it as we didn't fancy going out and get the chance to have a nice romantic, free evening in a lovely flat without having to be nice to people we don't really want to speak to. Anyway, I've said I will cook us a nice meal but it occured to me just now that I can't actually cook - eek. Of course by now he knows this but I would really like to try and impress him and do something nice so I need ideas on what to do. I'm a pretty fussy eater but he will eat most things so any suggestions welcome (except ones with cheese) :o)

Buy some of that salmon that you can cook in a bag in the oven, you can't go far wrong with that - hollandaise sauce in a pot, new potatoes, some veg.

hhmmm actually there is an amazing indian down the road called Bombay Bycicle Club. Usually my sister leaves me a bit of wedge when I look after the place for them to 'cover my costs'. Maybe the take away would be the best option and then I can concentrate on getting plastered.

go to M&S and have a look at their "cook it"range its all done for you - you just have to stick it in the oven, dead easy and nice. i had a beef which had been rolled and stuffed with ricotta and spinach with a tom sauce, it was really nice. and starters, side's and puds are all done to.

I always seem to cook for new years eve, a new tradition! I do fillet steak with the whole chunky chips, mushrooms, onion rings etc, spend a bit more than usual on a good bottle of wine and a pud, lovely!!!

we're going to get a couple of the m&s eat in for £10 deals for new years eve. i enjoy cooking but i also enjoy not cooking and just eating nice food too. if i was you milly, i'd save myself some grief and either get a take away or an m&s deal and just enjoy the romantic evening without any hassle ;o)

Salmon and veg are easy to steam (spinach is nice on top of salmon).

New potatoes are easy to boil up and you could buy a nice sauce or herby dressing to go with it.

A nibbles platter is also a possibility, a selection of cold meats, salami etc..., pate, nice crusty bread, cheeses, olives, dips with pitta bread, salad etc... Quite good feeding food!

A chocolate fondue could be "fun" for dessert if you want romantic ;)
