Back pain and co-codamol
26 Answers
Hi all :o)
My back went on Monday and I struggled through the week with paracetamols not really touching the pain but I seemed ok. Went to watch my daughter at the theatre Weds night so was sat for 2 and a half hours but my back actually felt better when we left and a bit more free.
Woke yesterday morning in agony. I can walk and move about but once sat or laid down it is just so painful to get up or even move. I have been to the Docs and she has given me co-codamol but the pain feels no different! Do they need to build up in my system more? She didn't look at my back or ask whereabouts it hurt just asked if I wanted stronger painkillers.
I think I just want some reassurance that they are going to work, I can't stand the pain, I'm actually exhausted from it. Thanx for any help :o)

Carbamazepine (Tegretol) 100 mg orally at bedtime; increase dosage by 100 mg every 3 days until dosage is 200 mg three times daily, or the pain is being relieved.
Go on......nothing to lose.....except your pain ;-)

Is it more muscular or mechanical (bone) pain you are getting? Whereabouts in your back?
Back pain is miserable. I used to be prescribed co-proxamol and it really helped me. Co-dydramol in the past too. There are stronger ones like tramadol which will more knock you out (be very careful if you end up on those kind of drugs) but depends on the cause as to how effective it will be - whether you need to wait it out or something needs to be done to fix it.
I was going to suggest diclofenac, good stuff though be careful with these kind of drugs if you have a delicate tummy, make sure you don't take tablets on an emply stomach if you can help it, Zantac can help too. Also watch if you are using any pain gels or similar as many of them contain drugs like diclofenac as well.
I've had a lot of help from osteopaths in the past.

Thanx for all the replies everyone.
Hi Jenna
It started in the spine just below my belt line but there was a definate pull on the right side and has moved across the right to my hip area. If I am moving about I am ok but once I sit or lay down and try to move it's flipping agony. The anti-inflammitary has made a difference but the pain is exactly the same so have given up with the co-codamol as it makes me feel funny.
