Really sore leg; doc says come back in 6 weeks.
61 Answers
My right leg is killing me, I have a lot of pain in the back of upper leg, going down to my ankle. My back is a little sore too but not bad. I seen a doctor a week ago about it, and he didnt seam too concerned, said it was a pulled hamstring, but could possibly be a slipped disk. He sent me off with some normal painkillers and said to come back in 6 weeks if its not better.
But it feels like its getting worse, im not even doing anything and the pain is kicking in. Should I go see my doc again? Should I see a different doc? I dont like going to see the doc if its 'nothing' but its starting to get really sore

Cheers Dris, I am Ex Military so you can understand why I have been smashed up a bit lately.
Sqad, do you honestly believe that every doctor knows all ailments as well as the next, as I said before you wouldn't trust the first quote you got for work on your house and builders are supposedly trained and certified to the same level as each other!!

we have about 8 or 9 doctors in our practice and depending on what's wrong you choose one or other of them as they all have their own specialties as well as being gp's.
other half is going to see one who is good with skin conditions to have a mole removed next week. there is another one who is the doctor for the local low league football team and has a keen interest, and knowledge of, sports injuries and muscular skeletal problems. another runs a clinic at the local hospital for eye conditions. my original doctor specialised in paediatrics.
at our surgery it definately is horses for courses.

House.....come on....so are GP´s trained to the same standard.....surely you are not suggesting that some medical degrees are easier than others?
All Gp´s know the basic principles of diagnosis and treatment of all the common and general medical conditions......hence the name GENERAL Practitoner. and if second opinions are needed then one is referred to a Consultant of that speciality.
Again...you are confusing quotes with guarantee of acceptable work and that is a financial second opinion.
Dris....the patient must take SOME responsibility..........if it is getting worse, then the DR would not expect her to wait 6 weeks......common sense MIGHT play a part.

Squad: "Just sums up the problems of the NHS.
Patients not better in a week.....so they want a second opinion???"
Its not that its not better, its the fact that he said it could have been X or Y without really being to diagnose what I have. Its also not just staying the same, but its getting sorer.
If your mechanic said your battery in your car was dead, only for you to replace it and find out its not the battery, would you go back to the same mechanic?

jp...the body is not as simple as a car battery.
In medicine there is a mechanism called "differential diagnosis" where the symptoms could be due to more than one condition.........you pick the most likely and treat it accordingly and if you are right then the patient accepts this, but if you are wrong then the Dr, reasseses the situation in the light of worsening condition.
It happens all the time to every doctor all over the world every day.
