spotted dick
19 Answers
A male friend, with whom I'm very close but not intimate, has just had a one-night stand with a woman, unprotected. Now he's discovered a few tiny spots in a small close cluster on his willie. There is no discharge or any other signs of a rash. I've been telling him to get it seen to, but he's scared. So he's asked me to ask: how likely is this to be an STD? Is there anything he can do at home to get shot of the spots? If he goes to a GP, is that GP only going to send him to an STD clinic? How likely is he to be prescribed pills (because he hates taking pills as they often make him nauseous)? Any serious responses welcomed. And, yes, he knows he should have wrapped up and promises to do so in future.

The best thing he can do is get himself along to the local GUM clinic, it'll be in the phone book or on the internet under his local primary care trust. It can be anonymous then if he wants. The GP certainly can deal with things like this but will refer him if it's more complicated - and the longer your mate leaves it a) he'll get more worried and b) it could get worse. Does he still have contact with the woman? - because if it is an STD, she'll need to get checked out too, or risk passing it on (and that applies to both of them). Tell him not to be embarrassed, the medics and nurses will have seen it all before - but tell him not to hang about either.
These answers are based on the assumption that the lesions are not itching, or leaking fluid.
