Sick Dog..
17 Answers
Hi, i know that sometimes dogs are "sick" and its usually green and slimly.. which from what i have heard is normal.. but on this occasion my chocolate lab has been sick and it has been his food.. whole in a brown slime.. he was sick last night... quite a bit.. a large amount of his meal and was then fine.. maybe a little calmer than normal but pretty much his usual self.. and then just a few mins ago a bit after his tea he was sick again.. a small amount but again his food and brown slime.. he then seemed fine.. but wined a little when i let him out...
he isnt usually sick like this and i am worried :/ probably just him eating too fast and not chewing food but i wondered if anybody could help me.... i just want to know if this is.."normal" or if its a sign he is really ill.
thanks xx

Just wanted to say....as tinned food goes, Butchers is probably one of the better ones! Fair enough I haven't used it for a while but it used to add no artificial colourings or additives and has been recommended to me many times to use to build up a poorly or under weight dog [I foster].
That said... Chicken and rice/pasta after a 12 hour fast is the way to...

I will try that thanks!
we think its the tinned meat we are giving him with his dry..he always has pedegree or winalot and we got him butches on friday.. he has had it the past 2 days and those are the days he has been sick.. wondering if its upsetting his tummy as well as him being ill.. but i think we will try the starving thing.. cheers..

Don't give him Butchers it's rubbish. Also my vet told me that starving a dog for 24 hours is the wrong thing to do. You need to feed it so that whatever is upsetting him moves through him. I hate to give contrary advice as it is confusing for you but the starving thing is not considered the way to go anymore. Chicken and rice for a day or so yes and plenty of fresh water but chuck the butchers please.

I never fast my dogs if they are sick - they will do it themselves if they don't feel too good, but sometimes bringing their food back is just a reaction to eating too quickly.
If he is going to the toilet ok then its not usually a problem, and within 24 hours they are back to normal. If either sickness or the runs lasts for more than 24 hours then take them to a vet as they can dehydrate quickly. He may just have eaten something that didn't agree with him or it could be that the change of food upset him although that is more likely to affect his poo than make him sick. My GSD had a day last week when he brought his dinner back a couple of time and was a bit loose, he didn't eat his tea that night but by the next day he was back to normal.

He is going to the toilet fine... he was first sick quite a bit sunday night.. then fine all day monday... then was sick a little last night.... and was then fine and was sick a little this morning.. and is now fine.... he has recently had his food changed to butchers and he seems to be eating his food too fast.. i think one of those is the problem because he seems fine en every other way.... xx
There is a dog bowl you can buy that stops a dog bolting his food. I use one for my female terrier as she can choke from eating too fast. Here is a link to one

You can buy similar at pet shops maybe for a loer price.
