CBT can be really effective and will almost certainly help you. I am wondering though which part of uk you are living in because there are some very good organisations around that may be able to help you to move on especially if u r a student. Womens aid for one - people think it is only about men and violence to women but it is there to support all women going through emotional abuse in any relationship as well.

Is there nothing like Marriage Guidance for mums and daughters? Somebody to sit and make you sort through stuff together - both of you would have to be willing to face up to what parts of the situation are of your own making and both of you will have to be willing to change.
Steer clear of CBT - my psychiatrist said that, as woofgang says, it can make the situation much, much worse.
