What is your opinion on this dentist?

I had the dreaded call today from school that my 6yr old has had an accident. Went to get her and she has badly chipped her tooth, nearly half of it is gone and of course its an adult one. I got an emergency appointment at our dentist and she was terrified poor thing. She had to be dragged into the room. The dentist wasnt very good at all with her and demanded to know why she was so frightened! Before I went in they had all wrong details and the dentist reckoned she'd had loads done before when she hadnt. I told him she had once overheard me say how painful the injection was as it was only a few weeks ago I had a crown done. He then asked me why I said that in front of her and how stupid it was and how I had put her off for life. All this may well be true but I didnt purposely tell her, she overheard me and who is he to lecture me? Anyway he attempted to touch the tooth and she wouldnt let him anywhere near. He said I had to come back again and I explained that she was a drama queen like this and would be exactly the same next time so why couldnt he just give her a bit of time to relax and calm down? I also told him working full time as a childminder meant I had had to leave the kids with another childminder to get here and really wanted to get it fixed now as it was hurting her too. He said even though I had work comittments she should come first! Like she doesnt?! He then said he could refer her to somewhere else to be sedated but the waiting list was huge as she doesnt really need to go there in the first place and doing so made him look pathetic like he cant even deal with a kid. He was an absolute plank. So am I over reacting? Was he right to speak to me like this?

I'm the worlds worst dentist visiter (made a post the other week about it on B&S) however, like you, I try, and I think and succeed in, not scaring Mini Boo when she goes. But you surely can't be to blame for what your child overhears- its not like you played her The Marathon Man before your visit is it?
What happened eventually Tigwig?

OK there above describes the situation faced by the dentist.
Any ideas folks?
Immediate treatment would have been totally impossible.
The only solution would have been another visit with her sedated....which is exactly what the dentist suggested.

Can you see if your dental surgery has a dental therapist on staff - they're trained to deal with children and although they might not be able to perform all the treatment they can maybe help your daughter relax and then the treatment won't be as traumatic. The one at my surgery was absolutely brilliant with my daughter, to the point where she actually looked forward to appointments so she could see her 'pal'
