chest infection - lingering and feels 'different'...

i must have had hundreds of chest infections in my time...this one seemed just another one...but now it feels 'weird'...

i finished my antibiotics today...but my chest is tight and sore to breath in.
im rattling and wheezing like mad, and there's a pain across the front....there is very tight phlegm that i just cant cough out...its just stuck and i have to forcefully cough to shift a bit...like its sticky or something

should i just wait an hope the antibiotics do their thing or go back the docs?
is it likely i could have developed some complication? pleurisy or something?

i have asthma too...but not usually very seriously and dont have attacks.

You probably need another type of antibiotic so go back to your doctor as soon as ossible. It doesn't sound like pleurisy, but you obviously seem to be still fighting a chest infection. They often do take more than one lot of antibiotics. Hope you feel better soon Joko!!

yep go back to the doctor. The first antibiotics may not have been suitable, blood tests and xrays could also be required. My OH had something very similar last Sept was ill for 8 weeks. It was first time in his life Dr phoned 3 times to see if he was ok, tests taken on a Fri pm were back before 8.30 Mon am. Specially important if you have asthma

i am no expert but agree with the above advice. what colour is the sputum ? would a steam inhalation help, im sure some abers may give advicere the inhalation.you could always call NHS direct.

Chest infections do take time particularly if you also have asthma.
If you feel well in yourself there is no need for further antibiotics.
If you have an inhaler for you asthma...then use that to relieve the breathing.

Clearly if you start to feel unwell...e,g temp. then go and see yourGP
