Asked my opinion of my manager.
My manager has applied for a job with another company and I have been sent a questionaire about him by somebody I know at that company.
.
The person has given me a signed letter on company paper stating ''We hereby give you our undertaking that the existance of this questionaire and anything you say in this questionaire will remain confidential between yourself and ourselves.
Is this legally binding and would I have any recourse to the company if the management of my company finds out about this questionaire.

As Dotty says you can only give a personal reference, myself I would ignore it. I dont know how you get on with your manager but what if you say something unpleasant and he doesnt get the job?

You have no authority to give any business reference based on your working relationship with your manager, it would be gross misconduct to do that, however, you can give a personal reference but only with the knowledge and consent of your manager asnd you MUST NOT mention anything to do with your work relationship, so good luck with that
Where did the co' get your add from? to send you the questionair. did your manager give it to them him thinking you would put in a good word?
It is not compulsary for you to fill it in.
I think if I were you I'd ignore it, Keep well out of it.It will only cause you stress and maybe sleepless nights. BIN it.
