Forearm exercises

I broke my left wrist last year, I started going to the gym and have seen pretty good results, but I seem to be having real problems building up my forearms. Any ideas?

For more on marking an answer as the "Best Answer", please visit our FAQ.Begin with a barbell with no weights. Sit on a bench, resting your wrists on your knees. Grasp the barbell, palms up and keeping your forearms firmly on the tops of your thighs, curl the barbell upward as far as possible and the return. Do 3 sets of 8 curls to start. When you've gained strength, increase with a few pounds of weights. Then.... turn your hands over, palms down, and repeat the exercise...
All Good suggestions so far. The forearm, like the calf need special attention as they are more dense than the other muscles. They therefore give a much more intense burn when exercised. I did rock climbing years ago and would thoroughly recomend it as a forearm work out. Another idea though is to continually squeeze a squash ball, even now I have one on my desk.

I broke my arm too as a teenager and found I had problems for many years later, especially when doing exercises that put strain on my wrist, such as boxing.
I've found that doing sensible wrist exercises have helped, such as using wrist rollers, the marcy wedge and even kettlebell drills. Not only have they helped build wrist strength, but also increase the range of motion in my wrists. Media URL: http://www.wristexercisesblog.com/
