Painful and tingly soles of feet

For a couple of years my feet have been really hurting- throbbing and tingly at rest regardless of whether I have walked on them. The doc has just given me painkillers which is surely just going to mask the problem. I have joint probs/ ulcerative colitis and slipped discs. Anyone heard of this or know what it could be?

Athletes foot ot type 2 diabetes although you'd like to think a doctor could spot these.Mne did in me. :(
Plantar fasciitis? My good lady suffered from same for years and only got relief after visiting our local podiatrist who was also trained in sports injuries. He administered deep massage, painful at the time but effective and insisted she DID NOT buy insoles and other appliances advertised to give relief.
ps My good lady also suffers your other ailments.

The association of arthritis, particularly rheumatoid, is well known in patients with ulcerative colitis. You already exhibit this association and in my opinion arthritis is the cause of your foot problems and clearly you GP is also thinking on those lines.
If the painkillers are relieving your symptoms then continue their use, if however you are concerned, then referral to a Rheumatologist may be the next move.

Hi Sqad- I saw a rheumatologist last week. I had about 10 vials of blood taken, and I think he is trying to work out if my arthritis is caused by the colitis, or is just osteo- cos I don't get red or swollen joints. He has given me amiltriptyline for pain but I haven't started taking it yet as I have a big load of work coming up and don't want to be dealing with side effects. But my next appointment is 3 months away! I really hope the foot pain is not diabetes- I deserve to get it as I am overweight - but I don't have any of the traditional diabetes symptoms.
Douglas- how does your diabetes affect your feet?

douglas is suggesting diabetic neuropathy which only applies if one has diabetes.

Hi Scarlett, my feet are pretty much as you describe and in particular the area where toes meet foot often feel as if my socks are wrinkled and bunched under my toes.
They are often almost painfully cold too but I've been like that for as long as I can remember (and that's a loooooong time) :)
As Sqad says, what I have only applies with diabetes and it's a fairly recent development in my case. It wasn't there when the initial diagnosis was made. Cleanliness, inspection, moisturising and properly fitting footwear along with our excellent local NHS podiatry guys makes for an easier life too.

In closing, red wine and dark beers over white wine and lager seems to make a big difference too (or so I'm told).

Interesting. Well, hopefully the blood tests will show if I am diabetic or not, but interesting that the feet thing is so similar to yours. Maybe I'll ask to see the podiatrist too?
