Car damage due to police station roof

Hi there, at the start of the year a section of roofing from my local police station blew off and damaged my car as a result of high winds. The police station in question gave me an incident number and told me to contact my then insurers. My insurers at the time said that as I was only Third Party, Fire and Theft that they could not pay out on the incident, but that they could pursue a claim on my behalf via my legal cover. I made numerous phone calls over the weeks and months that followed in order to keep tabs on the progress of the claim and was told that the case was being pursued and that Strathclyde police had 90 days to respond. I then recently contacted my insurer again and when I was put through to the legal firm whom were supposed to be dealing with the case they stated that they were in fact not dealing with the case as it was an 'act of God' and had made representation to my insurers as to that fact, right at the start when they were first contacted. I was subsequently told by my insurer that given the nature of my cover they could assist me no further and that I would have to contact Strathclyde police to resolve the issue myself. Where do I stand now? Is it worth me pursuing this further or is it a hopeless cause? Thanks for your help.

I don't know how the law stands on this sort of case in Scotland, but it might be a case for the equivalent of the Small Claims Court. I'd go to a solicitor for an opinion, in the first instance.
