It's been a while but - back in the day, I would go with the vibe.

There is enough unspoken communication between the species to indicate if a case woule be appreciated or not, so if a girl would like me to kiss her, then I would, but it would be reasonably 'polite' if i didn't fancy her.

I am having to trawl back in my memory here, I haven't been on a first date for nearly 34 years!

Well Ratter it worked for me like this. I went to a different dance hall four nights a week. When my friend and I got there we would first of all look up the " talent" we would then give then the eye until they asked us to dance. After the third dance we would know whether we liked them or not and we would split up and let our chosen partner take us home. All quite innocent but this went on at dance halls throughout the country and this is how I met my late husband.
So sqad I don't believe that you chose your girlfriends, I think that they had picked you out first.

I'd certainly never want to spend time in that way with someone I didn't fancy. Seems somewhat meaningless. Why is this even a problem? Why shouldn't it be special?
