Chocolate Box Artwork - 'Rule Britannia'
0 Answers
Can anyone out there help me. We have a picture hanging up at home from an old chocolate box lid. It's called 'Rule Brittania' and features 7 children from the late nineteenth/early twentieth century sitting/playing in the skeleton of an old fishing boat in a harbour on the british coast. On the left hand side of the boat the union jack is flying. Unfortunatly whoever owned it previously has trimmed the artists name from the print or as is possibly the case it was never signed in the first place as it was painted for said market. Does anyone possibly know who the artist is, or possibly seen it displayed anywhere in a gallery/museum or even a book? Or possibly someone knows where else we could possibly look in regards to chocolate box artwork on the web or otherwise? Some archivist maybe. I know this is a long shot but you never know.
