Hello Abers

I've started a new job and after I was offered the job, I was told that one thing has changed since the interview:-

I am no longer entitled to a 15 minute break (I work 5 hours a day...I am part time.... on my feet - not allowed to sit) UNLESS I come to work 15 minutes earlier to allow myself a break...................I am a little confused as I can't seem to find information on this
is there anyone on Abers that can confirm this please

You are entitled to a break
No you are not.
Rest breaks do not come into play until you work a minimum of 6 hours a day, unless you are under 18, then it's 4.5 hours.

I'd dispute it then.

That's the law Dizmo. There's nothing to dispute.
You are entitled to a break of twenty minutes only if your working day is more than six hours
or thirty minutes if under eighteen and work more than 4.5 hours. I would post the ACAS link but copy and paste isn't working on this 'phone.
All these answers weren't here while I was trying to copy and paste...
Regardless of entitlement, if Anna isn't happy then there is nothing wrong with 'disputing' it.
Not sure that's wise in a brand new job Dizmo, but it's up to Anna I suppose.
Well she can't dispute something that is quite legal. She's been offered an alternative - come in early

You can dispute anything, legal or otherwise.
....and people wonder why our Eastern European friends seem to get *all* the jobs :/
Yes you can but they will swiftly get rid of you
Weigh up the odds. She's not happy and she only works there part time. Personally I'd argue it, maybe ask for a 5 minute break.
point taken Dizmo, I think of dispute as meaning to dispute a fact when it actually can mean to just disagree. Still dodgy to argue when new in post IMO.
If Anna's boss is decent enough then they'll meet her half way. I'm guessing that they aren't which is why they have only contracted her for 5 hours instead of 6.
