Best Option For My Son To Play Minecraft

My 9yr old son is Minecraft mad.he has played it briefly at someone else's house but has watched it on YouTube so much.
He currently has an old PS2 and a Wii but I don't know what would be the best option re which games console/ tablet to buy him (for Christmas) and which would be the best for other games that are age appropriate for him as there is a lot aimed at the adult gamer.
Any advice would be gratefully received-I haven't a clue. :/
