The Greed Of Some People!!

Today we had our U3A Christmas party. I always organise a quiz and a big raffle. One member won two prizes and her husband won one. Most people say redraw the ticket if they win two let alone three. She even had the gall to complain that she had to walk up to the front to choose her prize each time!
They naturally chose the most expensive bottles of alcohol on offer.
I would have been far too embarassed to have more thank prize, what do you think?

I gave decent wine to co-workers ( a dozen ) but the sharer-outer couldnt find two and was a bit tiddly and put them into the tom bola ( marked ) and people came up to the two and said i won the wine you were meant to get from Peter P

If it's causing a problem limit tickets to one per person but if it's a fund-raiser, you pays your money etc.
You could try putting the bottles in sealed bags so it's a blind choice.

To take 2 prizes would be ok, but to accept the third does strike me as extremely mean.

Don't talk to me about greed. Remember the EEC butter mountain 30 years ago? They were giving it away free to pensioners and others under the auspices of the Salvation Army. People used to roll up in their limos and fur coats and queue for 2 hours just to get something for nothing which at the time cost £1 or less.

I don't remember anyone taking two prizes before, always declined and said redraw. That's why I was shocked.

Yes, would probably have said redraw after two, but everyone's different of course.

Strangely enough we were just talking about a chap who lives near us, he likes to tell everyone he is the wealthiest person around here. Each Christmas there is a raffle draw at the pub and he buys loads of tickets and really sulks if he doesn't win almost all the prizes.

I am taking that U3A are sorta elderly - that is what I call the "old people's syndrome" - meanness big time - they do not want to spend a penny over what they think is too much. Cannae abide it.

We used to see this all the time at functions when my wife was a teacher, then Deputy Head, then Head Teacher at different schools.

She and I would always buy tickets, and if we won we would decline the prize and offer a re-draw, I think that is just courtesy.

Our daughter's primary school Head Teacher drew First Prize two years' running, and kept them.

People were queuing up to take rubbings from the back of his neck!
