Severe Pain In Toe 2 Weeks After Nail Removal And Hot

It is 2 weeks tomorrow since I had my nail removed and up until now it has been relatively ok my mum has been changing the dressing every 3 days as instructed and she is a retired nurse with over 50 years experience however it is very sore to walk on and this is new, the pain is throbbing constantly and having to take cocodamol 30/500 to help and not even touching it. I am wondering if this is normal nearly 2 weeks after. It is a bit of a nightmare I am going to a concert 20 miles away on Sunday night I was going to get a bus through and stay over and spent the whole day shopping and going out for dinner about 7 hours from checkout I am not now sure if I can do this. I have a friend who is going and if need be she will take me and bring me back as she was going to take me back anyway, but I wanted some retail therapy.!!

'Throbbing pain' and 'hot' are classic indicators of a bacterial infection. See your GP.

Is this a different toe from the one on your other thread that's so painful co-codamol doesn't help?

Best see a doctor in the morning, if you've picked up an infection, sooner the better for treatment.

no, it should be peacefully healing. Medical therapy better than retail therapy for this!

2 weeks is a long time to get an infection........?
If it is not red and swollen then it may not be infected which I think may well be the case.
Early days to make a diagnosis and it could even be ..."gout"....nothing to do with the operation.
If you can take Ibuprofen, then change over to that 400mgms every 4 hours and monitor the situation for the next 48 hours.
If it does become swollen and red then see you GP.

Given that you are a diabetic and you have had problems with blood sugar control previously, I would ask your practice nurse to look at it sooner rather than later.

Campbilking makes a good point.....if your sugars are stable, it is unlikely to be an infection, but if they are not, then perhaps an early visit may be more appropriate.

infection in diabetics causes a very high stress reading..so check your sugars if they are unusually high it is a fairly good indication of infection

I've been a diabetic for 20 odd years... please go to your diabetic nurse or doctor straight away don't mess about with your feet in that situation get it looked at straight away.
With diabetics who don't control their blood sugars healing of cuts take forever I know I've been there loads of times ....having your toenail off and bad blood sugar control won't help the situation
Thankfully my sugars are well under control nowadays but cuts to lower legs and feet still take ages to heal .
So please get to nurse or doctor asap things could get nasty ..all the best
