How Do I Forgive My Dad For All The Emotional Damage He Caused Me?
11 Answers
My dad is a good dad but he promises a lot of things to me that never end up happening. One example is two years ago He said he'd move in with us (Me, my mom, and my unborn brother) so he could help my mom take care of us and he could spend my time with me, but he ended up making the excuse that he couldn't leave my grandma alone because she would become very sad. A month ago he moved out of my grandma's apartment to his own place so suddenly. At the moment I hated him so much for lying to me because my grandma is perfectly fine on her own And she desperately needed to live on her own anyways because she was very emotionally dependent on my dad) Obviously I don't hate him now but I still feel plenty of resentment toward him. Another example is when me and my dad were teasing each other right before we were about to leave the house in front of my grandma and his cousin or my aunt technically(My dad still lived with my grandma at this point) until i call him a pushover when it came to me, I kept on teasing him while my dad got more angry (I thought he was playing around type angry). Then he put his hands around my neck and started yelling at me not to mess with him. The whole debacle lasted two minutes but those were a traumatizing two minutes, my grandma and my aunt did nothing expect tell me not to mess with my dad. I went downstairs into my dad's car trunk and just cried for a good five minutes before my dad came into the car acting like nothing happened. This incident happened a year ago but it still scares me to this day. Anyways I really think my dad is a good but slightly ignorant person (He doesn't know that he's hurt me) I want to stop resenting him but with all his false promises (there's more false promises than just the moving thing) and the whole neck thing i'm finding it hard please help me forgive my dad!
