movie conversion

I have some Holiday footage which I took on my camcorder (the type with the DV tabe). I ********* my camcorder to my HDD Recorder and tranferred the video to the HDD, and from the HDD to a DVD+RW.The disc plays fine on my laptop and my dvd player, and what I would like to do now is to transfer the movie to my laptop hard drive, as I want to upload some of it onto Youtube.The problem is, I cant seem to find how to do this.I have the full version of Nero, but when I copy the disc I only get the option to burn as an image.What is wierd is when I open the dvd disc by clicking on the drive in my computer, it shows nothing, but when I select the disc using Nero Showtime, it plays the movie fine.
I must be doing something wrong,any help will be most appreciated.
