Don't try too hard.....just try n find out a bit about him first, so you can just strike up a general conversation about something you both have in common - like - 'what did you think about XXX homework the other day?' or 'did i see you near XXX (place) the other day?' - just something non-committing, and see how you get on. It's best to try n get to know someone before asking them out, to save any later embarrassment - like, what if it turns out he's really boring? or just not your type? Maybe it would help you if you could ask your friend what she would do in your shoes.....would she go after him anyway, or just forget about him? - it's really not worth falling out with friends over a boy, but at the same time, you can't always be afraid of stepping on someone elses toes, otherwise we would get nowhere in life. Just decide what is more important to you - your friend, your shyness or the boy? - and work from there - just remember, there's always a way if you're determined enough.
