A rant
10 Answers
I fancy having a rant so here goes. Why, why, why do TV producers think it adds anything to a programme to have significant pauses before making an announcement.
For example, strictly come dancing - the next couple to be saved is .......zzzzzz...zzzzz many seconds later zzz...zzz lets wait a bit more, bit of a drum roll thingy in the background, then whoopee! a name is announced. Is anyone still bothered by now? Celebrity jungle thing - the person leaving is ..... lets have a long pointless silence here ...... oh right, we'd better announce it while the audience is still awake.
Deal or no deal - I'm ready for the question Noel. Noel says "deal or no deal". Long pause while an unseen producer eventually waves permission to speak. If you were ready for the question, why did it take you half the afternoon to answer it?
It doesn't increase excitement, it doesn't make it more interesting - IT'S JUST INTENSELY IRRITATING. Why is everyone jumpng on this ridiculous bandwagon? Stop it now!
End of rant.

You are dead right Susiespider and the 'silent suspense' isn't the only thing that's irritating, what about the constant repeating of what we've just watched, before the ads, do the producers think we all have SUCH short memories.
Another thing thats annoying, is when watching a quiz programme, such as Eggheads, the contestants constantly say "I don't think the answer is 'A' or 'C' so I think it is 'B', Why not just say right away the bl**dy answer is 'B'.
I'm afraid that too many programmes are now being spoiled by time wasting.

I'd like to join the Ranters - it is driving me absolutely crazy, plus I find it acutely embarassing to watch.
Whilst ironing I was watching some dreadful afternoon cookery programme with Rosemary something or other and at the end of that she said, this is the person who's leaving my kitchen....drum roll.....long pause....fluttering eyelashes....heavy breathing - I turned it off at this point!

Jonukas - I'm right with you on the Eggheads thing.
What does C-A-T spell, cat, dog or horse. Well Dermot, let me think...it's not dog because I've got a dog and I'm sure that begins with D. I don't think it's horse because I think horse has 5 or 6 letters in the name. So I think I'll go with cat. I'm usually back to reading my newsapaper by then. The only good thing about Mr Supercilious (CJ whatsit) is that at least he comes straight out with the answer.
