Can anybody tell me if it is possible for a child to be physically/sexually attracted to their parent but not want to actually have a physical or sexual kind of relationship with them?

Sensible question, and doesn't deserve some of the answers you've been given.
yes, it is possible, your basically talking about a form of incest, and it does happen, even if some people don't want to admit it, its happened from time immemorial, still happens today. and will continue until the end of time.
Its only strength of will, and the knowing that its wrong, that stops it going further.

as we all know small children adore their parents and have a special relationship with them, especially dads and their little princesses, the little girl will put her daddy on a pedestal, he is her hero, she loves the attention and time he spends with her, this is NOT sexual at all.
BUT its is the responsibility of the adult to treat this special love with respect and tenderness, it is the decency and common sense in most adults not to betray that relationship, most people would not dream of having any sexual encounters with kids of their own, or any kids at all.
anyone who has these feelings towards children should
STAY AWAY FROM THEM. and seek help immedietly.

Right it may sound weird but....it is a recognised psycological phenomenem called "oedious Complex"
Freudian term, drawn from the myth of Oedipus, designating attraction on the part of the child toward the parent of the opposite sex and rivalry and hostility toward the parent of its own. It occurs during the phallic stage of the psycho-sexual development of the personality, approximately years three to five. Resolution of the Oedipus complex is believed to occur by identification with the parent of the same sex and by the renunciation of sexual interest in the parent of the opposite sex. Freud considered this complex the cornerstone of the superego and the nucleus of all human relationships.
As a further note - although this can be a normal stage of childhood development it is the responsibility of the ADULT to REDIRECT this attachment and set the firm boundaries of what is proper and improper behaviour. With a loving responsible parent this can be redirected the child will move on through that stage...(and no doubt become the normal sarcastic teenager stage that we all went through lol)
